A Completely Scientific Analysis of Adam Eaton's Penchant for Sucking
As Matt pointed out this morning, Adam Eaton is giving fans and Charlie Manuel agita. But the fine people at Baseball Digest take things to a much deeper, scientific level. They analyze the amazing achievement of throwing four straight balls to Randy Johnson.
Subtract the upper limit (42.7 inches) from the lower limit (21.6 inches) and we get 21.1 inches. Add our rough estimate of The Big Unit’s extra 4 inches to it for 25.1 inches. If we multiply that by the width of the strike zone, 21 inches, we get 527 square inches – the area of Johnson’s strike zone. How did Adam Eaton miss? According to MLB Gameday, Eaton was only close with one pitch:
Heck, even Mayor Nutter coulda thrown a strike.

On a completely unrelated note, Gavin Floyd was two outs away from a no hitter last night.
Not that he could have done that in this town, and getting rid of him was the right move...maybe.
At least it was good to see the Unit's mullet back in full force, circa Seattle '97.

If Gavin Floyd had pulled off a no-no against the Twins on Tuesday it would have been the sloppiest, most unjust no-hitter that I can remember.

So, how many starts do we give Eaton before we pull the plug? I've seen enough. I'd have been happier with a rookie in that spot.

This was really Eaton's first disastrophy of the season. I'm willing to give him a few more chances.
Of course I did throw a beer across the room after he walked Johnson....

I agree with Dubs. We were not completely out of the game when Eaton was pulled, and our bullpen has been outstanding so far. We know Eaton is going to be hit or miss, but i don't think any of his starts this year have been worse than Kendrick or Moyer.
How come no one is jumping on Myers for giving up 11 HRs so far this season?

WTF is a disastrophy?

Disastrophy: An annual award given to the nicest badonkadonk butt in a hip-hop video.
e.g., "Dis ass trophy goes to..."

Eaton had given us 3-4 quality starts, and the offense didn't show up. One or two mediocre starts and we're bitching and complaining already? I thought Eaton would be a permanent fixture on the bench by now. Of course, with last nights start, his extremely fragile confidence is probably shattered.

I don't think its fair to give up on Eaton. Don't get me wrong, I'd still take Kendrick or Moyer over Eaton, but Kris Benson isn't ready to step up yet, and the other options are not very appealing either. Your 5th starter is going to frustrate you sometimes... thats why he's your 5th starter.

I havent given up on him. I'm just trying to figure out how in the hell you walk the pitcher in that situation is all. Obviously thats not all that happened with him last night but come on, four pitches?!

The formula? e=mc2
Where...
e = Eaton
and
mc2 = massive choke by the second half of the game

I've seen enough Ryan Howard for awhile... Charlie has to sit him down for a few weeks, he's just not getting any better.

Good to see Mad Dog still can't quite get the job done.

Anyone else hearing that annoying heckler in Arizona? I know the Phil's just pulled ahead, but he really did seem to get to Howard and Burrell. He keeps saying "swing now!" right after a pitch, and "I'm in your head now!!!" The guy has got to be losing his voice soon. He's an annoying bastard, that one.

I don't advocate senseless violence, but behind home plate is a fella in red who has a habit of waving to the camera. I'd give my right arm to see the guy next to him tap him on the shoulder, do the "look at this" as he holds up his thumb, and then clock him in the side of the head.

I wonder how long those kind of screened in preimium seating would last around here, the ones that are on ground level. Let alone the pool in the outfield....they really must be some wholesome people out there. Either that, or almost dead. Guess there is nothing to really care about when the tickets cost less than a beer.
