Phillies Fans Cope With Being 1-Hit by the Nats in Less Than Sanitary Fashion
After a rocky top of the first, Cole Hamels settled in and limited the Nationals to just one run over 8 innings on Wednesday night. But despite their vaunted offense and the bandbox dimensions of their home park, the Phillies could only manage a single hit.
(That's all we got? Just one goddamn hit? /Uecker)
Unfortunately, the hit didn't clear the outfield wall, and the Phils lost 1-0. How did the South Philly faithful react? By littering the field with debris, of course! After an unprecedented second straight loss to start the season, a few fans felt the need to artfully construct a street installation of sorts to symbolize their protestations for Phillies management. We're sure that will get the Teflonics' attention, and rather than further reducing promotions aimed at college-aged fans (such as last night's Dollar Dog Night), they'll probably sign a previously unknown top-tier free agent third basemen and tonight's power outage will be nothing more than a laughable memory come playoff time.
At least a Mets fan got tossed out with the trash.

Those classy individuals from St. Joe's, Temple, and Drexel (myself included) will always find some excuse to fill the ballpark and act like assholes. I love Philly.

What a painful 3 hours of channel surfing that was...between the Flyers game and the phils during stoppages, I really did not enjoy myself last night as well.

For a split second I thought pelting the Mets fan with hot dogs was harsh...
Then I thought to myself a) he's a Mets fan b) the Phillies are not playing the mets c) he's a mets fan
At that point I thought it was funny

That was the least entertaining game I have been to in a while, and since when are XL T-shirts considered one size fits all!?!?

not feeling shane in center or as # 2 guy, needs to pick it up pronto.

How about Monty during the game? He was basically salivating the whole time, looking out over the crowd thinking about all the money he's making. Talking about promotions and attendance. What a jerk off.

After playing a little over 1% of the season:
Bourne is hitting .182
Rowand-.400

Reminds me of an Eagles game at the Vet against the Redskins. Some jerk in a Giants jacket comes marching up to the 700 level. 10 minutes later, the guy gets nailed with a full beer. Security promptly removed the Giants fan.

DB I am with you 100% Those T-shirts fucking sucked. I mean the promotion was aimed at fans 14+. Are all fans 14+ morbidly obese? Those shirts were horrible. You mean to tell me they couldn't order some different sizes? What a joke. I could wash that shirt 100 times and it would still be gigantic. The neck hole looked like it was made for a walrus head. Bullshit.

It was sad watching the trash fly on the field.
Get a grip everyone.
I was in my usual seat in 138 shaking my head.
I am a classy individual from St. Joe's, class of 90.
Grow up and move on.

Wow, I'm a Met fan, but even I have to admit that was incredibly stupid for the dude to show up to a philly game wearing a Mets jersey when the Mets are not even playing the Phillies. I guess he was trying to be a martyr or some sort.

If you're from NY and coming to to town for a Mets @ Phils game...ok, I'll let you slide. This douche was obviously trying to start some trouble. He had to know what would happen. If he didn't...then he's a double extra stupid douchebag. He probably went home and smugly wrote about it on his blog. Mets jersey at a Nats @ Phils game = T.O. Cowboys jersey at a Giants @ Eagles game.

one of the most boring games ive been at. the phills made the Nats look like their whole pen annd starters were Ace's! But the best part was the trash on the field at the end of the game. Its ironic, trash on the field, like the phillies trash hitting. o well, 160-2!!

The fans who threw trash all over right field after the game are a disgrace. I was disappointed just like everyone else, but that's no reason to disrespect the game or the field.

willie and John, I am with you. Throwing anything on the field is not appropriate. "You stay classy," Philadelphia.

Here's my solution... every time Philly fans get caught doing stupid Philly stuff... they lose a professional franchise.
By the end of April - we'll have no real professional teams to root for.
Which is basically what we have right now.
Philly sucks... we suck... and damn it - people hate us.
But hey - at least a fictional character won a boxing match several decades ago... at least we can hang our hats on that for all eternity. And as long as Vince Papale is still alive... we'll hear about how heroic he was.
What Philly needs is Dollar Murder Night. All of the gangs in West Philly and North Philly pay a dollar to get into Citizens Bank Park... last group standing "wins".
