Mets Fan Falls From Shea Escalator, Dies

Sad news from Shea Stadium. A Mets fan, Antonio Nararainsami, 36, lost his footing on an escalator and fell two stories to his death. Before any Mets fans jokes start flying, for a little perspective, let's keep in mind the Guyanese Brooklyn native was with his two daughters at the time, while his pregnant wife was at home. It's a terrible event no matter what colors he was wearing.

ESPN reports that the man's cousin said the escalator wasn't moving at the time, but there's no word as to why. Terrible way to mark the last year at Shea.

Wow, that's a shame. No matter what the rivalry, I never want to hear of someone dying. I hope his family is looked out for.

that is a tragedy

that's terrible, I wish his family the best in this devastating time.

I'm sry for his families loss but HOW DO YOU FALL OFF THE ESCALATOR AND DIE??? I been to dozens of games @ Shea and dont understand this. We all know what will happen next, his family will sue claiming negligence even if it was his own negligence that might have caused his death

This is an unfortunate story. It is indeed tragic. But to answer one of the above commenter's questions, I believe he was trying to slide down the railing of the stopped escalator. Check this article.

No matter how stupid he was being at the time, it's a shame for his kids and wife.

ehh, they can have all the fans they want, just keep them out of citizens bank park.

that is a sad story, and my condolences go out to his family and friends.

FYI: I deleted that Danny G. comment that seemed to think this was a good time for jokes.

sad sad story...glad to see this blog can stay classy in a time of tragedy......

to not a fan of five - we'll be there in full force this weekend....you better believe it......

ESPN's initial report said that the guy was sliding down the railing, making it seem like he was horsing around. Not sure why they changed it, but how else do you fall off of an escalator?

bring it! Good, more people to point at and laugh at when we're winning. It's just not the same beating the mets with nothing but Phillies fans surrounding you.

Wow... I mean, I love to rib on the Mets, and their fans, but this is a true tragedy. I have deep sympathy for the family of the lost, and also for the Mets Community. Despite the rivalry, it is just that, a rivalry. I would never wish death upon a Mets fan, just as I hope a Mets fan wouldn't wish death on me. Again, sympathies to his families.
