Eagles Sign Dan Klecko
The Eagles have reportedly signed fullback and special teamer Dan Klecko, a Temple product, to a 1-year deal. Although he's been a defensive end to date, the Birds are looking to use him at FB, filling the void left by Thomas Tapeh's departure. Klecko has a few Super Bowl rings and plenty of playoff experience, so it could prove to be a relatively significant minor signing.
So yeah, apparently it's my alma mater day here at The 700 Level, although America is celebrating another holiday as well.

Damn, I didn't know it was BB&B Day!!! That might be the most useful info I've ever seen on this site!
I will probably me in the minority here, but I really like this signing. Klecko isn't necessarily the most talented player out there, but he can play multiple positions, has a good motor, and has a winning pedigree. Plus, it's a one year deal, so there is no risk involved.

Kulp, you and I agree on this point, as I find usually happens. I liked Klecko when he was at Temple and thought he was an excellent pick of the Pats a few years ago. I think he will fill in nicely for Tapeh. It's pretty hard to not be as good as him, he never really did anything in Reid's offense, but I think Klecko can be a good blocker and brings a sense of tenacity to the field which is always good. I'm excited to see what he can do in camp. And as you said Kulp, it's only a one year deal so no harm can come from it. In my opinion Eagles fans will be happy with this deal when it's all said and done and they can see him on the field.

Klecko was the Big East Defensive MVP when he was a senior. I think Temple had 1 win that year (give or take), and Miami was still in the conference. He's obviously a great player, and I love the signing.

All the FB is on this team is a glorified guard anyway, so why not Dan Klecko?
Whatever happened to those Kevin Turner or Tom Rathman type fullbacks that could actually be used out of the backfield? I guess defenses got too fast for those types of players.

I don't care where he plays... if he can contribute on special teams, that makes him a good signing right there. If he's painstakingly bad at FB (which I doubt), there's plenty of Jon Ritchies out there without jobs who can be picked up.

I was actually concerned about the Fullback position with the loss of Tapeh...very important to have a lead blocker/blitz picker-upper. I will happily cross FB off my worry list going into mini-camp season.

I love this signing... local boy does good... should be a good leader in the locker room and on the field... shows that they are trying to improve in the red zone since that's where I see him blocking mostly... would love if they put him in at the DT rotation and just put him in blocking situations inside the 10... isn't that how he's been used mostly in his career?

I have just come up with a brilliant idea for our offense, utilizing the skill sets of newly acquired Dan Klecko ...
Hear me out: 3rd and 1. Game on the line. Westbrook is the tailback, Klecko the upback ... Reggie Brown in the slot - Curtis in motion.
McNabb takes the snap ... he fakes to Westbrook ... he passes to Klecko two yards behind the line of scrimmage in the left flat.
Perfection.

I really like this. Wasn't he a LB?
Does anyone think that, seeing as we never use our FB, it would be a good idea to use a TE in the backfield for blocking? We never use them for rushing, sometimes for screens, but mostly for blocking. Any chance Celek is the TE/FB? Well, before this signing that is.
