Phillies Close to Signing Kris Benson
Delaware News Journal's Scott Lauber says the Phillies are that much closer to landing pitcher Kris Benson. This appears to be a positive move from all angles. For starters, it could mean that Adam Eaton's ability to break your heart may be moved to the bullpen. Any move that gets Eaton out of the rotation surely won't anger Phillies fans. Then there is the shear blogability of Kris Benson's wife, Anna. She would make the 2008 season that much more enjoyable to watch. And finally, Benson, you know, might be able to pitch a little bit. The fact that he hasn't pitched in ages leaves a ton of question marks but as most analysts are saying, this is a low risk high reward type guy. I welcome the move.

I don't care if they sign Hitler to pitch every fifth day. If it could possibly mean no more Adam Eaton fumbling around on the mound I'm all for it!

Anna Benson coming to town is a gift. Can't wait for the first revealing outfit she wears to the Linc. Can't wait for the first batshit crazy thing she does. She makes Alycia Lane look like Lisa Thomas Laury. I cannot wait.

We gotta set an over under on how many days it takes Burrell to close her...

@bboova: Between March 30 and April 4, 2006, he did.
As for Anna, her Wikipedia page states that "she hates PETA, gun control organizations, and Michael Moore."
If I was white trash, I'd totally be touching myself now.

hate to break the news to you guys but it appears that Anna and Kris Benson have divorced... http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/31/sports/basketball/31bensonbox.html
But if he can pitch better than Adam Eaton then I'm all for it

Sean, she filed for divorce, but never finalized the proceedings. They remain married.

I don't mean to sound gay, but could we look at this from a baseball perspective?
I can't believe we get 40 comments about how awful the Pedro Feliz signing was, but nobody thinks this is a bad idea. Can anybody tell me when Kris Benson was good? His numbers aren't much different compared to Eaton's, and his tendency to give up home runs is at least a huge concern.
Feliz is at least a solid third baseman whose production at the plate should only benefit from playing for the Phillies. I can't think of any way Benson improves this team other than giving us another arm in case of injury.

kulp- as long as the contract is incentive laden, i don't think it's a terrible signing. if he sucks it doesn't cost the phils anything and if he's good than whatever he makes in incentives is well worth it.

zolecki is reporting that they came to terms on a minor league deal. a phillies scout says that benson is only at 60-70% right now and most likely won't be ready until opening day-june 1.
