Linesman Pat Dapuzzo Takes Skate to the Face, Brawl Ensues

Linesman Pat Dapuzzo was badly injured when Steve Downie's skate inadvertently caught him in the face after Downie was upended by the boards. A fight broke out between nearly everyone on the ice, and although Dapuzzo did his best to help, he was severely bloodied, and the other refs were concerned with whether he was OK. The players brawled it out in classic fashion, and the Flyers' and Rangers' trainer came to the aid of Dapuzzo, who ended up with a broken jaw and 60 stitches. Warning, this clip doesn't capture the frontal shot of the skate to the face, but there's definitely some blood.

It's a shame that wasn't Sean Avery's throat that got cut open instead.

Same. I wanted the linesman to let Richards and Avery go at it. Wouldve been a good fight cause Richy during that second period just seemed like he was pissed at the world, he was running over everyone. And Avery is just a jackass so he wouldve gotten what was coming to him. Steve whats his name back to back shutouts on the Flyers, where did this guy come from? Maybe the Flyers just suck at home against the Rangers or something(DUH!)

How many games do you think downie will get for this one?

"I wanted the linesman to let Richards and Avery go at it."

Me too. Would've loved to see Avery beat him like he did earlier in the season. I wonder if Richards would have bothered to take off his visor if it was Avery. We know he didn't want to against Dubinsky (who really needs to learn how to fight).

Word from sources close to the Flyers tell me that Coburn's "lower body injury" as reported during the game is a torn glute muscle and he is most likely out for the year.

That's what we're hearing too, Tartan. The Postgame show had reporters asking Homer about trading for a D-man, something that was rumored already. Multiple sources have them looking at Rob Blake, and one has Upshall as the possible key parting player. Nothing to confirm any of that, so we haven't posted.

Flyers blow.

I was at the game; did not know about Coburn. That sucks. They will definitely need to trade for a d-man now.

@Craig: Richards was looking for a fight for pretty much the whole game. Don't know if you're a Flyers fan or how much of Mike Richards you've seen, but he certainly wouldn't be scared of Brandon Dubinsky (as evidenced in the fight, where Dubinsky got beat down). And Richards has definitely fought and beaten tougher dudes than Sean Avery.

Downie is such a pussy, going after a defenseman who never fights (and had a clean hit on that play, as if flyers would now what CLEAN was). Downie has been a piece of garbage since his OHL days; figures he fits right in with the flyers...

Downie might be the next Chris Simon

I didnt catch the whole game since I was at the car show but I did see the hit on downie and the fight the followed but was there something else in this game that I missed that downie did? or are more people whining about someone playing tough hockey? I mean it is hockey so people need to strap on their man pants.

Orr Kick Some Philly Butt Once Again and Owns the fyers tough guys!!!

Figured downie goes after a guy who has never fought

What a bunch of goons. Fucking Flyers. I hope Bobby Clarke dies in a fire.
