Latest Flyer Giroux Already Has His Own Nike Spot
With the team reeling after the loss of several key players to injuries, the Flyers have called up right wing Claude Giroux from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Just 20 years old, Giroux was the Flyers top pick (22nd overall) in the 2006 draft. The expectations are high for this kid, and he even has his own Nike spot. Video after the jump.
See that? Faster than a horse. That's good pedigree. He also scored 112 points (48 goals) in 63 QMJHL games last season. Sick. Speaking with Glen Macnow last night, head coach John Stevens said that Giroux wouldn't be a fourth liner on this team, that he might get to run with Mike Richards for at least a portion of tonight's game against the Senators.

His workouts seem incredibly badass. I like.

No way should they be putting this guy on a 4th line. Kudos to Stevens for recognizing that.
Good find on the Giroux video; he looks like he'll be the real deal and not require a lot of motivation when he gets up to the NHL permanently.
Also: the workout where he's got the harness on reminded me of the workout Mike Alstott used to do when he was at Purdue. Alstott would be harnessed in and pull an entire car a certain distance within a certain time. That was impressive.
