McNabb: 'Let's Add Some Weapons'
Late Monday evening Donovan McNabb let the world know that he believes the Eagles should add some more playmakers. He's not just barking -- punny! -- for wideouts on offense. He's calling for the Eagles to add playmakers in all three phases of the game.
You can't argue with how the Patriots went outside their locker room and stocked up on playmakers last year. It certainly helped to have Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker and Adalius Thomas making plays for them all year.
I'm surprised that anyone would have a problem with me, or anyone else in the organization, expressing a desire to bring in more quality players. We were 8-8. There is room for improvement. This is a competitive sport. It's about putting together the best players, the best team, and giving yourself the best chance to win.
Donovan's worried about being criticized for voicing his opinion. I will not criticize but rather nod my head in agreement and echo number five's sentiments.
Yo, Andy. Add some playmakers this off-season.

When we write this stuff in our blogs, it's one thing. But McNabb? He actually has the power to march into Lurie's office and put his beefs out on the table, with all of the histrionics that would accompany such an act. Why doesn't he exercise that power?

I don't think the Patriots were being disrespectful to Troy Brown or Reche Caldwell when they brought in Moss, Stallworth and Welker.
Reggie Brown and Greg Lewis would like a word with you, Dmac.

Hey McNabb, we're behind you state your case publicly and to the owners, the fans have been saying this team needs to get you more help years ago. Its about time you step you to the table for you and your fans!

Thank you, DMac. This is one step in the right directtion back towards "Super 5" rather than just "5". Eagles have one of the best backs in the the league and a Top 10 - if not higher QB. Let's get someone to stretch the field, run back punts and get to the QB next season.
You hearing this Big Red?

who do you suggest they get? People often complain about teams not signing free agents but sometimes it is often a better move. The redskins always seem like big players in free agency and how does that turn out for them.

Larry, it doesn't necessarily have to take place in the free agent market. In fact, there doesn't appear to be any true "weapons" becoming available this off-season.
However, there are a lot of interesting players in this draft, specifically at wide receiver. A lot of people like DeSean Jackson; I don't. It's not that he won't be a good player, but the Eagles need a bigger wide receiver that can get off the line of scrimmage against the press. Jackson has great return ability, but there's no way they use a first round pick with that in mind.
There are a plethora of bigger receivers in this draft, and I think that's what McNabb wants. A bigger target in the red zone would create more scoring opportunities just by opening the playbook for more fades and other jump-ball type routes designed for the tall wideouts. They wouldn't even have to get rid of Reggie Brown or Greg Lewis (Hank Baskett would be the odd man).

What is everyone's opinion on Javon Walker. I know Walker requested a trade from Denver this offseason. If we could pull a Moss and swap a 4th/5th pick and maybe another player, do you think he is worth it?

I know the Eagles like Walker... they considered trading for him when he was with Green Bay, but the asking price was too high, and they probably had their eye on him in the '02 draft.
If you could get him for such a late pick, he would be worth taking a chance on. The main concern is he has been injured a lot, but it's obvious the talent is there and at 6'3" he at least comes close to the bigger-type of receiver I am looking for. If nothing else, a trade for Walker would allow the team to focus on their other needs for this season.
