Breaking: Kyle Korver Traded to Utah
The first trade in the Ed Stefanski era has sent Kyle Korver to Utah in exchange for guard Gordan Giricek (expiring contract) and a protected first-round pick. A decent player and a community guy, Korver will be missed in Philly, but Stefanski's charge is to rebuild the Sixers, and adding first-rounders is the best place to start that process.
Mark Narducci on the "protected" pick:
The pick can start in 2009 and the Sixers have seven years in which to make it. There are different protections for each year, according to Stefanski. Teams protect picks in case they are in the situation to receive a high choice, thus not losing it.
>>Jazz trade Giricek, pick to 76ers for Korver [InsideHoops]
>>Sixers trade Korver [Marc Narducci]

wow that is kind of shocking. Korver wasn't going to be anything great but he did have a sweet stroke from beyond the arch, besides that he didnt have much else. If anything I think he will fit in a lot better in Utah.

This feels like the Hornacek trade, white 3 point shooter going to Utah, hopefully we get something good out of the pick.

I think it has the potential to be a good trade. Kyle Korver isn't worth as much as a first round pick. It may hurt the 76ers this year, but building for the future it should really help them.

This trade has 3 way value for the 76ers. Fist it gets them a first-round pick. Second it Gets them an expiring contract that will help come free-agent time. Third it give them a player who is not all that different then Korver. Gordo can shoot it pretty well and isn't a horrible defender.
A solid A- to Stefanski on this one!

Very good trade...I wouldn't have thought you could get a first rounder AND an expiring contract for him. I like it.
My only real question: what will this do to his career hosting Punk'd?

Great trade and it has 4 values. It gets rid of 4-5 million Korver who was signed through 2011.

I'm a big Korver fan but I can resign myself to the fact that this trade makes sense and should help them going forward.

Good deal.

I love Korver, but this is a good trade.

With his skill set (good-to-great outside shot, little-to-no D) Korver is only useful on a good team as a 6th or 7th man. On this team.....
Getting an expiring contract and a 1st round pick is a good thing. Good move by the Delco guy!

this is not a good trade at all yea i am a huge korver fan but this is stupid we say we want to win now but we dont we trade good players we get a guy who has 4 points a game id rater have booth play more then and a draft pick that can be used in 2009 no sense at all unless we have good players nobody would want to come here honstley with this team why would gilbet areans or elton brand want to come here those are bascially the only good free agents this summer bad move bad move

I know the Inky was in a rush to get this story online before ESPN or somebody else scooped them, but this was the most heavily typoed story I've read in a while.
For instance...
"Korver, who has had an up and down season, has is averaging 10 points." -- [this has is was just the beginning].
and...
"Stefanski, realizing that Korver was among the most popular players with his teammates and the fans,"-- [that's the end of the sentence. Really.].
and...
"Teams protect picks in case they are in the situation to receive a high choice, thus not losing it." -- is that English? I don't think so.
and...
"Ironically, the Sixers and will meet the Jazz Wednesday in Utah." -- I'm really hoping Narducci and will run his next story by a copy editor before throwing it online.

If you want to critique a posting, take a look at Mike who finds no necessity in putting in punctuation marks. It seems too good to be true, I wonder if there is some stipulation with the pick.

Honestly, it hurt my eyes reading Mike's posting.

Awesome trade. The real question is how Utah figures that Korver merits a number one pick. Kudos, Stefanski!!

Another thing with Korver is that he couldnt defend anyone. He tried hard but his defense was just shiiiiity... I like him for his effort, he is a team guy, but his skills are only useful if you have a winning team, ala John Paxson on the Bulls, and Steve Kerr on the Bull and Spurs.

Korver's defense did suck. At least once a game - he would get DESTROYED by someone. I'm talking like a monster dunk right over his entire body - you would just kind of cringe awkwardly when you saw it - every night.
The thing I will miss the most about Kyle Korver is how he looked uncannily like one of the vampires from the "Buffy" TV series. Not like a main character or anything - just one of the drone, backup vampires - with their faces all scrunched up ...
