Geoff Jenkinstown, PA
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com is reporting that the Phils and Geoff Jenkins have reached a preliminary deal to bring the outfielder to Philly. The deal is said to be for 2 years, paying Jenkins $13 million. A third year may be added if he reaches certain plate-appearance milestones.
Jenkins, with nice numbers against righties, was targeted as a complement to Jayson Werth for a decent platoon situation in right field, and he's got some nice pop in his bat, which should bode will at CBP. Hopefully the new setting will help to boost Jenkins' sinking average as well. Not being suspended to start the season is a nice touch as well, an obstacle Mike Cameron is facing when trying to find a new home.

Bo! Bo! Bo!
Much better choice than Cameron.
It's gonna suck to be a RHP and face the Phillies next year.

Love the signing. OF is definitely not what worries me about this team.

Give me a 3rd baseman... pitching is awful all around the division, lets at least make sure out offense and defense are solid!

With Jenkins and Werth, you could conceivabley get 30 to 35 HR and 95 to 110 RBI in Right Field.
Now, 3rd base and another pitcher or two... and we're good.

Yeah, whatever, the guy's not an alright platoon player, but seriously - CAN'T WE GET A GOOD, FULL-TIME PLAYER INSTEAD?!? I don't WANT a platoon player, I want a good, everyday starter who hits over .255. Wtf? Since when do we get happy because the team throws two mediocre players out there instead of one really solid talent?

Lest we forget...
1993:
LF Platoon: Milt Thompson/Pete Incaviglia
RF Platoon: Jim Eisenreich/Wes Chamberlain
Not to mention Morandini/Duncan & Hollins/Batiste
To recap, there is nothing wrong with a Platoon. Keeps everybody fresh.

Agreed with meech. Most if not all teams have at least one platoon. We have 3 MVP candidates for pete's sake, you can't have an allstar at every position.
I'm PERFECTLY fine with a Werth/Jenkins platoon in right. Especially when Jenkins can spell PtB when he goes into his yearly funk.

I'll make this short and simple- bottom line, Geoff Jenkins improves the 2008 Phillies.

Wow Geoff Jenkins...oh yea that's gonna replace Rowand's prduction. Whoopie! Now all we need is a good third baseman, a pitcher who can actually pitch, about three more good releivers who can give us quality innings and we'll be no better than we were last year!

The Werth/Jenkins platoon will, in effect, replicate Rowand's production....although, it'll be harder to replace his timing of production.
This is a good move. Almost a no brainer. You still have Dobbs. The Phillies are fine in the outfield and perhaps foolishly, I expect Burrell to hit .285 this year based upon the entire second half of last season.
A national league team is always going to need a couple of nice platoons even if one is at the catcher position.

We needed a new Geoff on the team in order to win another division title.

The Jenkins/Werth platoon may not match Rowand's numbers from 2007, but you'd have to figure that Rowand in 2008 won't match those either, being that he's had 2 good seasons in a 6 year career. And the fact that he would've cost 60 mil/5 years, the Phils might have played this one well. Assuming they spend the money they saved on pitching...
