Garrett Reid Sentenced to 23 Months, Smuggled Pills into Jail

If you thought Andy Reid would be busy preparing for the Cowboys all day today at the NovaCare complex, you would be wrong. Instead, Andy spent much of the day in court where his son Garrett was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail for the incident in which he smashed into another car while high on heroin.
Garrett Reid, 24, could leave jail early if he applies for and is accepted into a special drug court program that would require him to hold down a job, report to authorities regularly and undergo rigorous drug testing.
Reid tested positive for heroin and admitted having used it, and authorities found syringes with heroin and testosterone in his SUV. He was taken into custody again Tuesday after failing a drug test, prosecutors said. He had missed a scheduled test last month, prosecutors and his attorney said.
To make it a family affair, Britt Reid was also in court today to deal with his road rage incident. Ugh.
UPDATE: This story just keeps getting worse: "it was also disclosed that he had smuggled 89 pills into jail by secreting them in his rectum." Um, yeah. Issues.

Reid really should step aside. This is ridiculous.

He smuggled 89 pills into jail in his rectum too... http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/20071101_Garrett_Reid_sentenced__smuggled_drugs_into_jail.html

The pills were discovered this morning. Could your timing be any worse, Garrett?

I may be going out on a limb here, but something tells me these kids have a problem.

this is really terrible for the Reid family. Andy really should step down as coach for the rest of the season. The Eagles could let him retain his front-office title, and stay involved in some capacity. Lurie obviously has a lot of respect for Andy, and I'm sure Andy doesn't want to do it, but Lurie shouldn't leave it up to Andy anymore. He'd be doing Andy a favor if he told him to take a break for a while.

the real crime here is that no one is thinking about steve obadashian what will he do if andy steps down. what about all the new things going to be yelled at him, why dont we think of children, all the children.

89 pills in his butt ... at least he's ready for jail!
Posted by: Chris | Thursday, November 01, 2007 at 02:52 PM
I heard that he said he liked selling drugs in North Philly because he thought people were scared of him. Yeah, ok...

During this difficult time for the Reid family, do you think Steve Odabashian feels their pain a little more than the rest of us?

How in God's name do you prepare for Dallas after being told your son has close to 100 pills in his ass..............in addition to being a criminal and a junkie.

The judge in the case referred to the Reid's house as a "drug emporium." Ha.

A. Rush: Maybe it will help him keep the offense creative. For instance, to alleviate the red zone TD problems, maybe an RB can smuggle the ball over the line in his ass.

Rectum? Damn near killed 'em!

Did anyone else get the Latter day Saints ad at the top of the page? Huh. Ironic.

Since Andy Reid's sons obviously got the money to buy drugs from their parents, specifically Andy Reid, who gets his money to give them from the Eagles, then isn't it kind of weird that the Eagles are indirectly pumping drugs into the community.....WEIRD!!!

And to think... all this time I thought Andy Reid the "father" was keeping Andy Reid the "coach" from.. say... mastering the 2:00 minute drill or winning a championship. That his inability to win the super bowl and divert from his "script" were because he was too busy helping Garrett with pharmacology homework or driving Britt to target practice to put the Eagles over the top. And all the while... it was the other way around.
It is WE... who have been neglected.

Let's not all jump to conclusions here. Maybe Garrett didn't smuggle the pills into jail. Maybe he's been taking drugs for so long that his body actually manufactures them in pill form, and "secretes" them from his rectum.
He could be one of those guys from Heroes. Except instead of flying or stopping time, his ability is to make drugs in easy-to-swallow pill form ... from his rectum.

Should he resign right now? No, he shouldn't. His two kids will be in jail. What could he do to help them other than be at home with his thumb up his ass(hehe, cheapshot)?
If he's going to resign, it would be during the offseason. Personally I don't think he'll resign.
This Garrett guy is quite the clown. "Dealing drugs in North Philly." Yeah ok buddy, even people that don't know anything about drug dealing in North Philly know that a pasty white chubby kid from Villanova is not standing on owned corners dealing drugs.

Garrett, uh, Reid still sidelined with the (cough) Rectum.... we'll see how he does in practice this week (cough)... Times yours

Let's all get off our high-horses here, people.
We are quick to critcize Andy, and his sons for their problems ... but let's be honest.
Who among us hasn't - at one point or another - stuck 89 pills up their ass ?
Posted by: Joe Manning | Friday, November 02, 2007 at 01:16 PM
Voluntarily or involuntarily? This one time, as I was leaving Tijuana . . . .
Posted by: What? | Friday, November 02, 2007 at 01:28 PM
89 pills is a conservative estimation. Who knows how many he used or got rid of before they discovered it.
Posted by: C | Friday, November 02, 2007 at 01:55 PM
I think Andy should take A break ... considering the EAgles stats and his family issues..GOD BLESs HIM and HIS FAMILY but from a team p o v eventually the personal tends to roll off on the professional

I think the league will step in and make Andys' decision for him, maybe in the form of a suspension for a few games or calling for his resignation. The league in the past, when "negativity" has tarnished its' image, drew a line in the sand, remember the Michael Vick legend??, and I think they will approach this with the same intensity.
