Get Your Orange Wedges Ready
We're another big step closer to having an MLS team in Philadelphia. It's hard to keep track of exactly what all the recent progress in stadium-building plans has amounted to, but the agreements reported yesterday do make it sound like the barriers to a Chester waterfront stadium are being overcome. Alex Rose of the Delaware County Daily Times reports that an investment group has agreed to $30 million in additional funding for the stadium project, which Delaware County Council Chairman Andy Reilly says "is the culmination of over a month’s worth of
negotiations, and it’s a major step forward in bringing Major League
Soccer to Delaware County and the Philadelphia region.”
Big ups to the Daily Times and the Daily News for doing such a good job tracking this story for us Delco/Philly soccer fans. It's been a long, continuing story with only paperwork milestones so far, but they've kept the awareness high. See Alex's article and a piece by Bill Bender in today's Daily News for details on what the stadium could mean for local development along the river. It's a really encouraging story for an area that could use a boost.

"Great, one more reason that I want to go to Chester. Wait, that's the only reason I'd want to go to Chester."

if/when we (chester) get a soccer team, can we make sure that it isn't named something totally stupid like the "red bulls" or "real philadelphia (chester)" or "philadelphia (chester) united"?
we need to come up with a good philadelphia (chester)-centric name. and lets get some cool colors and a logo that doesn't look contrived and over-designed?
if these conditions are met, i will gladly support the philadelphia (chester) soccer team.

Poster Nutbag-- that logo is awesome! The light blue may be a little off, but the graphics are awesome. Go SoBs!
As for the name, I doubt Chester will be anywhere in there. I think a good classic name is Philadelphia A.C..

The team should try to blend in with the surrounding community; the uniforms be long white t-shirts and oversized blue jeans that way the ref don't know who to card, our team be the Murda Mob(we don't need no city allocation), and parking only will cost your car stereo.

I think Philly United would be an awesome name but, i saw we bring back the kelly green and silver for our new football team. Really thought it won't matter, I'll be supporting no matter what.
