Big Ten Network Prevents Penn State Fans From Watching Game
Penn State is playing right now, but you likely aren't watching at home, even if you really wanted to. That's because the game is on the Big Ten Network, a new channel created by the Big Ten conference. The problem is, almost nobody with regular cable in the Philly area gets the new channel. Comcast isn't ready to throw it on their basic tier anytime soon.
I might be wrong about this. It's only educated speculation. But if the Big Ten does not relent in its demand on the basic tier, Penn State football fans had better grow accustomed to one of three ideas on several Saturdays during every season from now on:
1. Consider subscribing to DirecTV, the satellite dish service that reached agreement with the Big Ten Network on the ground floor.
2. Find a bar with DirecTV.
3. Get reacquainted with Steve Jones and Jack Ham.
So if you're a die hard PSU fan, you're likely at a bar today watching the game. Unless of course you have DirecTV. I hear that's not too shabby.
>>Comcast won't budge and can't be blamed [Penn Live]

There's also the very slim and very outside chance of having D&E Communications for cable, as they've picked it up. I happen to have it here in State College because it comes with my rent for my apartment building, but almost all of State College is Comcast. It leaves like 6 bars/restaurants between this cable / DirectTV that you can actually see Penn State football games in Penn State.

of course, I did get to see it in person from the student section at the stadium, so that's always the best way to see the home games.

I was across from you in NA. But, I spent four agonizing years in the student section (01-05). The view, and the team, seems much better from in NA!

I ended up scurrying to Chickie & Pete's on Packer Ave. to watch my alma mater. Other than the effin phenomenal roast pork sandwich the highlight was sitting a table away from all-time PSU great and current Eagle Tony Hunt. Did I mention that finding the Big Ten Network in the 215 was a nightmare? Thanks Comcast. I can't wait to take a shit in the Comcast Center.

Dude, it's not Comcast's fault... why should everyone have to pay for the Big Ten Network? I think it's retarded they even had the nuts to start their own channel, and now they want to try and force cable carriers to put it in every home. Even the NFL Network couldn't make that happen.
I'm simply boycotting the games as long as they don't mean anything. I'm not going to get too bent out of shape missing PSU mollywhomp Buffalo in two weeks.
D&E is definitely the way to go in State College. NFL Network, ESPN Classic, History Channel... it's got it all.

I need to use the word "mollywhomp" more often.

Only three problems with DirecTV
1. Rain? No TV.
2. Snow? No TV.
3. Comcast Sportsnet? What Comcast Sportsnet.
Much as I hate Comcast, it's better than DTV.

Cable TV is the new taxation. Once people got wise to building free stadiums for millionares, the leauges decided its much more fun to charge every TV-watching citizen 50$ a year to watch boring sports.
Penn State fans have plenty of options. Just subscribe to the Big Ten Network. It might cost you some bucks but better you than us.

i second this motion, however no comcast sportsnet....adelphia and then comcast go that
option 4 could be just go see the games in person, that's what I'm doing. It's mostly because I'm in denial about being a recent alum
