The Cole Hamels Interview
Wow. An amazing four days of baseball in Philadelphia. But things are just heating up. Our man Meech gets an exclusive interview with Cole Hamels. Some highlights:
MM: Besides Bugs & Cranks (that goes without saying), do you ever check any other sports websites? Philly has some great ones, like The 700 Level & Beerleaguer, or more national-centric ones like Deadspin, The Big Lead or With Leather?
CH: No, I most definitely don’t read any of the other websites. No offense, but I don’t like to listen to other peoples comments because I have way too much to focus on so that I can get ready for my turn in the rotation.
Doh!
MM: Philadelphia fans: Passionate die-hards or Crazy, maniacal lunatics?
CH: 40% Passionate die-hards, 60% crazy, lunatics and fair-weather fans.
Ouch, dawg. OUCH.
And damnit, Cole drinks Coors Light? Say it ain't so, Cole.
MM: Can you spell ‘Retarded’? [Okay, bad joke. Don’t answer that & I apologize.]
CH: Yes, M-I-C-H-A-E-L-M-I-L-I-C-I. [Just kidding. Back at ya.]
Point, Cole.
And props to our man, Meech. I hate you.

The Alfonseca joke in there is awesome

So...Cole Hamels is a dick? Is that what I'm supposed to gather from that interview, because he kinda comes off as one. Calling the majority of your fans "crazy, lunatic, fair weather fans" isn't really the best way to get ahead in this town.
Hey Cole, you're a great pitcher, but, uhm, go fuck yourself.

i thought Cole was hilarious, and it was a great job by Meech putting together questions you don't usually get to hear in high-profile interviews. i was a little thrown by the fair-weather fans thing too. through ups and downs this season, CBP has been packed, whether the ace was on the mound or it was one of many minor leaguers. with one championship in over a hundred years, we haven't seen much fair weather, but we're always there.
however, i'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and say he probably just meant that phillies fans are quick to boo you if you suck, cheer if you're playing well. to me though, there's a big difference between that and being a fanbase that only cares when its team is winning, which is how i define "fair weather."

Sounds like Cole still has a lot to learn about this town.

Good interview, I particulary liked this question and the accompanying picture:
"it’s gotta feel nice knowing that without ever appearing on the show, you were actually the biggest winner from Survivor, right?"
