Hamels to Miss Tomorrow's Start, Maybe More...
Wheels and Sarge just announced that Cole Hamels will miss tomorrow's scheduled start with a tender pitching elbow. The rumors have begun circulating that it's worse, and that he could miss several starts (or more). We won't get too far into it until something is officially announced, but this is not the sort of news Phils fans can stand to hear as September approaches in an injury-plagued season. Examination and MRI tomorrow.

Oh brother. I'd better dust off my old jersey 'cause it looks like I'll be starting tomorrow... Is that why they brought up Castro? I heard he was starting in the minors.

This team cannot affort to lose Cole Hamels. With the weather and news today, I need a drink.

this is the worst thing that could happen today.
first i get news that Trot is gone and now Hamels is hurt?!
this is horrible!

I have a horrible premonition that ommy-Tay on-Jay is in Cole's future.
'Bye, Cole. I hardly knew ye. See you next September.

Clare that's too pessimistic. It's up to 3 weeks so that's about 4 starts. Chase will be back and he might not necessarily miss all 3 weeks. Hopefully it's nothing serious and it's just a little sore. Cross your fingers.

Clare, if you're right, he won't be back in September, he'll be back in September of '09 but I'm faithful it's not that bad. Cole said that he'd miss at least 2 starts because when they do an MRI, they inject ink into your elbow and you can't pitch for a few days after. Hopefully we can fill in the starts until then. Thank god we had an off day on Monday so that we could push CoolerPants up a day in the rotation though.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time. Without Hamels I'll be happy if they go .500 during this extremely important homestand. Best case scenario now is that they tread water until they get Hamels/Utley/Victorino back and then catch fire with everyone back.

err...I messed up my months, it would be April '08 unless the Phils made a playoff push next year w/o him.

April '09 even...i'm going to stop now.

Does anyone else think this training staff might be acting just a little too protective this season? There's no way this many players can possibly have LEGITIMATE injuries.

It could be that the staff is overprotective, but I think maybe they need to revamp their staff and philosophy a bit. The pitching staff gets hit way too frequently with injuries. Maybe they should re-examine some of their methods or bring in better personnel.

And maybe the players need to stop being such little girls... Chase Utley sounded devestated by the news of having to go on the DL. Yet guys like John Lieber treat the trip to the DL like a paid vacation.
Did anyone see Ryan Howard slide for that ball near the stands in the 7th inning and then come up a little limp? I thought for sure Charlie was going to pull him. I make more spectacular dives than that every week in beer league softball! Man up a bit fellas!

Chris Wheeler will join starting rotation.
He is a great man capable of anything! And loyal like a dog.

we need the optimists now more than ever, i cant take this anymore.
i need some "glass is half full" people to set me straight today.

Chase may be back next week, Shane Victorino will be rejoining the team most likely on Wednesday, and Cole may only miss 2-4 starts. Plus with Utley back we'll be better offensively so therefore the pitching just has to keep the team in the game.
I'm trying to be optimistic.

To borrow a phrase from a certain overexposed sports columnist, I think I just threw up in my mouth.
