Not Exactly Breaking News: Stand Pat Says Phillies Likely To Do So

Surprise, surprise.  The Phillies have budget constraints.

With the market for starting pitching astronomical and with rookies Kyle Kendrick and J.D. Durbin 6-2 combined in their 10 starts, Gillick indicated that, besides plugging in Myers, the Phillies won't change much before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline.

"We're going to continue to look and try to come up with something that can be an improvement. Some of the stuff out there isn't an improvement," Gillick said. "What is out there might improve us, but the asking price is off the wall. Astronomical.

He has a point.  There's no use in overspending for some guy who might not be any better than Cooler Pants or Killer K.  At this point, I don't think the Phillies should overextend themselves for anything that's out there.

i read this article and i think he means that what teams are asking for as far as players in return is off the wall, not that he cant add players because of salary.

in order to get a decent pitcher i think we'd need to dump bourne, shane or aaron, maybe that is what he means by "astronomical."

we all know pat only looks at three squads anyway - white sox, seattle and toronto.

I'm with you. I don't think we'd get equal return for Bourne, Rowand, or Vic.. That's what I meant by "there's no use in overspending.."

If they do trade anyone, hopefully its Rowand. Looks unlikely they'll sign him next year anyway and might as well sell high on him.

At this point, despite last night's heroics, Rowand should be on the block. For whatever he can get us. he won't be here next spring and it seems pretty clear at this point that Bourn can play every day. I think it's time for Stand pat to pull the trigger.

You can't trade Rowan just to trade him, or give in to the idiots on comcast and wip who mostly talk out of a jackass, "The trade DEADLINE" they think that is the most important part of baseball. Rowan likes being here and having him and Victorino in the outfield is awesome. If there is anyone to get rid of it's the left fielder.

Don't even think about trading Victorino or Rowand for some chump. If you give into that your a chump. Speak for yourself -Gargano sucks-
