Karma Pays Off for Phils in Colorado
The rains came hard today in Colorado, causing a 50-minute delay in the 7th inning of the Phillies-Rockies game. The visitors responded not by heading for shelter, but by running onto the field to help an overwhelmed Rockies ground crew. It wasn't just a minor rainfall either--the rains were heavy and the wind was intense; it looked like a hurricane was whipping through Coors. It was cool to see the Phils charge out and help pull down the tarp, and when the rains lifted, they hung on to win.
The Phillies did their good deed for the day in the seventh-inning delay, rescuing members of Colorado's grounds crew from underneath the whipping tarp. A strong burst of wind caught hold of it as the crew tried to roll it over the infield. Victorino grabbed a corner, dug in his feet and pulled it as hard as he could toward left field. Ryan Howard held a section down with a knee. Michael Bourn started heaving sand bags onto the tarp to weigh it down. Matt P braved the Philly heat by watching the game with the AC on.
Shane Victorino was pulling the third base corner so hard he was almost parallel to the field, and after the delay, he jacked his 11th of the year. After the Phillies won and came off the field in the bottom of the 9th, the Rockies' ground crew was waiting to congratulate them in the visitors dugout.
J. Rolls 'Em Up
Jimmy Rollins sported a new look, rolling up his pants and showing off the red stirrup socks and red and white kicks. He finished the day 3-4 with 2 RBI, so don't be surprised if he's rockin socks at home after the ASB.

Any idea what the hell this, from today's paper, is supposed to mean? 8 or 10 guys who don't know what their role is? Who is to blame for a third of the team not knowing whats going on?
"We came a long way. We climbed. We fought. We've been fighting all year," manager Charlie Manuel said. "We got four games over .500. . . . But we've got eight or 10 guys who don't know exactly what their status is or what their role is on the team or how they fit on the team. . . . Can we get it back? Oh, yeah. We can get it back when we get a team where all the guys know what's going on."

It makes alot more sense when you see that Pat Burrell is actually just as useful as a sandbag.

It was pretty cool to see the highlights just now on SportsCenter of the tarp thing. Hopefully someone gets it on You Tube.

Never been more proud of a Philly team than today. That was what Philly's all about.

where were the rockies, while all this was going on? This isn't the first time that someone related to philadelphia stepped up and help someone in need, i believe that Mo Checks help a young girl finish the national antheme in portland. That's right baby brotherly love.

It was great to see this, BUT, what if Howard, Utley, Rollins, or whoever got seriously injured performing this good deed? We would all be singing a completely different tune right now.
Extra karma points to the Phils for making the Rockies look like a bunch of lazy sisses in front of their home crowd.

Good stuff with the tarp (you guys always get the best pics of this stuff).
Love the new look from JRoll. Anyone remember Delino DeShields (from Seaford, DE)? He used to wear his socks like that in tribute to the Negro League ballplayers (who apparently wore their socks showing in that fashion).
Maybe he's getting inspiration from Moyer as well, who is always old school with the socks and stirrups.
