Fear For Your Safety, John Lannan
That is the low-life, worthless, piece of rookie trash that broke our MVP's hand this afternoon. Lannan has accomplished what few athletes can in such short time by forcing an entire city to loathe his very existence on planet Earth after only his first appearance as a Major Leaguer.
The Phillies were fighting for their playoff lives with Chase Utley and his MVP bat in the lineup. Take him out for over a month and you're left with shattered dreams.
Thanks a lot, John Lannan, for seemingly ending our shot at the post season. You piece of shit.
>>Utley out 4-6 weeks with broken hand [The 700 Level]
Editors Note: For those who don't get it, this was written tongue-in-cheek. We're passionate, not barbaric.

i was listening on the radio and i have never heard the boos louder at CBP then they were this afternoon, especially after he hit howard.
lannon is a total gutless sack of shit for doing what he did to our two best players. mark my words, this isn't the last you've heard of the phillies and john lannon.

Yes, John Lannan should be afraid of Philly fans, but plenty of other teams in the race will be looking to send flowers to his doorstep. My initial reaction to hearing that Utley would be out for a month was anger as well. But looking at the Phils schedule over the next month, even with only the two hot bats in the line up, I think they could still be in the race when September rolls around. In the rest of July and throughout August the Phils have 2 series vs. the Pirates, and a series against the Fish. That's three very winnable series, even without Chase's MVP bat in the lineup. The other series coming up are against the surging Cubs, Brew Crew, Braves, Dodgers, Padres, and Mets. If one of the other Phils can have one big series each, a big series for Pat, some big hits for Coste, another breakout series for Dobbs, they could feasibly pull off wins in 2 or 3 of those series, especially considering the games against the west coast teams are in Philly. Winning some games will also mean relying heavily on one of the younger rotations in all of baseball. Hamels is a proven commodity and "Killer K" and Coolerpants have both shown positive signs early on. If the Phils can go a little better than .500 during that one month span, they still may be within striking distance. Just enough time for Utley to lead a surge back to a potential wild card berth into October.
I know that the typical Phils let us down this time of year, but if the team can rally and come together maybe...just maybe they can string together enough wins to sneak into the playoffs....maybe.

Have a heart, Campitelli! The dude's mom was in the stands, crying after he got thrown out.

mommy lannan needs to get over it. her son broke the hand of our best player, on purpose, and was a complete dick about it to boot.
she should be crying because her son's a jerk, not because he was rightfully thrown out of a game for throwing at our two best hitters.

I'm angry at the manager of the Nats too, in fact more so than Lannon. He was ejected and the ump knows how these things work.
I think the Nationals should be kicked out the league - contraction. They aren't even trying to be a contending team, they just want to do physical harm to contending teams.

Break Jose Reyes' ankle and we will spare your life Mr. Lannan.

There's a bunch of 2B on the block but I like Jorge Cantu who is a bargain now.

My condolences...

That ump did Lannan a favor. Hitting one of our MVPs was bad enough. Hitting "The Big Man" right after that was completely unacceptable.
Makes you pine for the days when we had a Dave Hollins-type of nutjob on this team that would charge out of the dugout when this sort of crap occurred.

Dewar- someone should have been doing 100mph to the mound the second that ball plunked Howard in the bat. Unfortunately, this team is just lacking that kind of temper. How about Aaron Rowand? Mr. Run into the Wall. how about you go lay out the pitcher. oh, i hate that.
Posted by: PJ | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 11:19 AM
and when rowand dislocates his shoulder in a wrestling match with a rookie pitcher or shane's finger gets stepped on at the bottom of the pile, who's tough then?
the pitcher sucked, he wasnt throwing at people on purpose and the phillies knew that.
holster those six shooters, fellas.

At least Utley still has a sense of humor when putting up with questions from reporters:
When asked if the best-case scenario was being out for a month, Utley answered “probably sooner.” When asked what the worst-case scenario was, Utley responded, “I don’t know, my hand will fall off.”

Maybe the gods of baseball can cut us a small break this time and get him back on the field in less than a month.

I thought you philly fans were supposed to be the toughest bunch in sports. Or does the courage only extend to unattended vehicles with out-of-state tags and the unarmed mascots of other teams?

Red Sox fans still haven't forgiven Al "Burn in Hell" Reyes for breaking Nomar's wrist.

HALLELUJAH!
Lannan must be killed.
He ruined everything.
If I could, I would ensure that that little poopstain never pitches in the majors again.
Posted by: Flametown | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 02:13 PM
Maybe Chase should have tried to have gotten out of the way a little better?
Posted by: Young James | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 02:14 PM
That guy will never dare pitch in philly again.
Posted by: Flametown | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 02:21 PM
Hmmm. Misdirected, psychotic anger? From Philly fans? I don't believe it. You weren't winning anything with Utley, you're not winning anything without him. At least you've got a scapegoat for another disappointing season now. Go cry in your beer....
Posted by: DubTee | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 02:23 PM
Phillys sports have sucked forever anyway. The only thing they know how to do is lose and get injured (McNabb). Have fun in loser town and keep your batteries handy for injured players!
Posted by: kp | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 02:38 PM
I just read at Metsblog that Lanaan grew up on Long Island and is reportedly a Mets fan...
Posted by: Young James | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 03:01 PM
Anyone find it comforting to have such a perfect scapegoat? I haven't felt this good since we had Jose Mesa.
Wait a second...
Posted by: Snevik | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 03:22 PM
Wow, you are all fecking psychos. The kid shoulda been pulled at the beginning of the inning, sucks that utley got hurt, but that is life.
Posted by: stefin | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 03:37 PM
I'm sure that, for his next scheduled start in Philly, Lannan will tell Acta that he can't possibly pitch in Philly again. "I can't do it, Skip. Have you read those comments on that 700 level web site?"
Posted by: you're all absolutely right | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 03:37 PM
Wow look at all the guido's signing on. Big surprise New York and North Jersey faggots putting their nose where it shouldn't be. I just wanna know, whats it like to have the first team in NY baseball history to have the 3rd baseman from the Yankees dating the Shortstop from the Mets? I'm Pretty sure Keith Hernandez used to fuck Rob Dibble on a regular basis..but never inter league fucking--thats some rare shit.
Posted by: Tom | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 03:59 PM
Yo DC- Leave horse genitalia out of this....even though your mother can't.
Posted by: pj | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 04:42 PM
typical Philly trash, you delete my original comment. continue to live in your glory of no championships. I'm going to go get bombed now at Fedex with our 3 super bowl trophies. Are the 10,000 loss parties over yet?
Posted by: dc_regader | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 04:56 PM
Waaaaaa. I'm a Phillies fan and because my team is fully of pussies too soft to retaliate I leave poorly spelled threats on a blog. Waaaaaaaaa.
Nats 4 eva!
Posted by: SC | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 04:57 PM
I'm surprised that the group of comments here (seeing most are from Philly) don't contain WAY more spelling errors...
P.S. Utley is overrated....and shi**y
Posted by: PhilliesSuck | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 05:13 PM
I know I'm playing in to the hands of the twat who posted above me, but I can't resist.
Chase Utley, 2007:
.334/.412/.582
That's the polar opposite of overrated.
Oh, and your parenthetical statement is grammatically incorrect, f*ckface.
Posted by: pilgrim | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 07:39 PM
The Phillies suck. They would have found some way to blow it anyway, so at least now all the "fans" can get to what they do best, booing there own players. Philly fans are classless. That is why God punishes them with no championships and major injuries to their stars.
Posted by: BraveBob | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 07:53 PM
you ACTUALLY think chase utley is the key to the phillies making a playoff run?? HAHA if he homered EVERY single at bat odds are good that pen still wouldnt hold the lead
Posted by: Chris | Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 12:17 AM
so the Nats have fans. you'd never know it from the telecasts.
Posted by: Matt P | Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 02:02 AM
All philly is trash
Posted by: Kurt | Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 09:48 AM
man, you philly losers are so lame...injuries happen in baseball - people get hit, bones are broken...if the Phillies are so good, then they can survive an injury to any player...seriously, your city needs group therapy.
Posted by: graham | Wednesday, August 01, 2007 at 02:17 PM
I guess Philly fans are bigger pieces of trash than I originally thought. If you honestly think that a rookie in his first start hit Utley on purpose, than you guys are more screwed up than I could have imagined. We all mistakes, and no one should know that better than Philly fans.

That kid did not hit those players on purpose, how stupid of you low life Philly fans to suggest something like that. John Lannon will be a greater star than anyone of your loser Phillys
