Finally... Over .500
It was bound to happen... After doing their best impression of Santa's Little Helper at the dog track for a few weeks, the Phillies have finally ascended to upper-mediocrity, taking their record to one game over .500. When the 9th Inning From Hell was going down, I sincerely doubted it would be on this road trip. But due to some starting pitching, ample run support, and oddly enough, much-improved bullpen work, the Phils have taken the first two games of their series in Atlanta, with their ace set to take the hill today.
Antonio Alfonseca finally gave birth to his first save since 2002 (no word on how many fingers and toes it had), and fellow Fat Boy Mike Zagurski has been solid in two outings since being called up from Double-A. Toss in some clutch hitting from Shane Victorino, who was a double short of the cycle yesterday, and the return of Ryan Howard, and it's possible this team can go 2 weeks without Brett Myers.
Now let's close this series out for a change...
Anyone taking odds on whether the umps make it a clean sweep against Bobby Cox today?

I don't know what the rest of you think, but as I looked at "Bronko" in the dugout the other night after his first relief appearance, I had this strange feeling that I was laying eyes upon a kid who had been cast in the next Sandlot movie. However, even though he does look like he's about 14 or 15, I'll take his 2.1 innings of scoreless/walkless relief pitching.
