Greg Oden May Not Even Make a Dent

3goofywhitedudes 70-49

That was the score at halftime in the FedEx forum last night.  The Sixers were down by 21 points at HALFTIME.  The problems Philadelphia has are not going to be fixed with the bounce of a ping pong ball.  It may take ping pong balls bouncing the right way for the next fer years to right this ship.  There is only one word to describe that effort by the Sixers last night: pathetic.  The Sixers have lost 3 straight and 7 of their last 8.

Kyle Korver after the game gave some insight as to why the Sixers struggled against the last place Grizzlies, “We didn’t play good at all – offensively, defensively – we just didn’t play good basketball."

Former Philly guy and now Memphis guard Eddie Jones on the game, “I think first of all we competed. We competed extremely hard in this game and we we’re able to get a nice win."  There was indeed a basketball competition that took place.  The Grizzlies competed against the Sixers last night.  On the other hand, the Sixers decided not to reciprocate said competitiveness.  I don't even think that makes sense.  I give up trying to write about the Sixers.

Also, please go look at this photo of three goofy looking white dudes playing basketball.  It's like a photo op straight from your local Y.  This one is some great photography.

I caught a shot of Mo Cheeks early in the second half, and he looked as if he'd rather be helping that girl who forgot the words to the national anthem.

That loss was the best thing that could have happened. The last thing we need is for the team to win a few meaningless games and cost the team their future.

Greg Oden or Kevin Durant will absolutely change the future of the team, instantly. Look at the dreck surrounding Lebron, and he has them poised to win the East (okay, okay, the East is weak). Add Oden or Durant to this team, and it's an instant winner. Like adding Patrick to the Knicks, KG to the Wolves, or Lebron to the Cavs.

As long as Korver, Dalembert, and Iguodala show progress - and the have - do not judge this group as a "team". You know deep down inside, Mo didn't really want to win this game.

interesting point on comcast sportsnet last night:

according to their numbers, if you come in dead last, you actually have more than a 10% better chance to get the 4th pick than the 1st (because if you come in last, you are guaranteed to be in the top 4, so if you don't get the 1-3 picks, you automatically get the 4th). apparently the worst team very rarely gets the top pick, with it happening less than a handful of times in the last 20 years since the weighted lottery was in instituted.

no stats on how second-to-last did...

Pitchers and catchers report February 15. Hang in there, everybody.

Personally, I love this rundown by my man Beasley Reece, as reported over there on Philly Will Do. Classic.
