Those Roids Are Good

Asterisk"It's big. It's really, really big." -Barry Bonds, not commenting on his head, but rather on his pursuit of the Babe.

713 was a moon shot.  As the guy sitting in front of me at the game tonight said, I'll tell my grand kids I was there to see Bonds hit number 713 some day.  ESPN has video of the blast.

It was a perfect weekend in South Philly for baseball.  The Phillies hot winning streak, coupled with Bonds pursuit of history, provided a great buzz all weekend.  I sat in the first row in left center Friday night, directly behind behind Bonds and the fans were pretty brutal at times.  The Ruth sign was perhaps one of the best signs I've seen at a sporting event.  It is perfectly tasteful and yet extremely creative and witty.  Good work Philly.

It was a pretty great weekend.  3 nights of perfect weather, 2 free tickets, 44,364 boos, 4 dollar dogs, 3 bags of peanuts, a Schmitter, a disappointing funnel cake, 1 Bonds homer, and perhaps the most surprising thing of the weekend: 3 Phillies wins.

I'm curious as to how the broadcast on ESPN portrayed the game/fans?

-Bonds Crushes 713 [ESPN]
-Bonds first 2 nights in Philly pretty boring [Inqy]
-Jim Salisbury on Billy Wagner, From heroes to villains [Inqy]
-A collection of good signs from the weekend: 1, 2, 3, 4, and these guys have too much free time.
-Cole Hamels is on fire [BS&S]
-Four stars out of four [Swing&Miss]
-San Francisco Bray [ShallowCenter]

I thought Morgan and Miller wre pretty even handed with the Philly fans. But that's to be expected from those two, they're generally the classiest in the business. They didn't bring up the booing as much as i thought they would, they pretty much ignored it most of the night, not taking the normal national media "Well, that's just philly fans being philly fans stance." You could definitely hear it in the broadcast though (the booing, that is) They ignore it for the most part. They did indirectly rip Lidle for his Bonds comments though, saying it was "curious" and maybe a little disingenious that Lidle didn't lump former teammate Giambi into his steroids rant. Curious, really? So you speak out against one player and you have to throw everyone you ever knew that had the same issue under the bus every time you talk about it? I think it would be curious if during the interview the reporter asked about Giambi and Lidle took a differing approach there, but that didn't happen. Giambi's not the one who's going after all-time records here, is he?

Great site, btw... I was at the games Saturday and Last Night... And I gotta say Saturdays crowd was a bit more rowdy... either way great spirit from the fans hating on bonds, and yeah that banner in left field is an instant classic, I took a picture and had to make this YTMND about it.

Enrico--

You and I were really close to each other Friday night. I'd have bought you a beer had I known you were there. Nice wrap.

LOVE the signs. I gotta hand it to Philly fans when it comes to heckling (especially zinging someone who deserves it). Awesome.
