Sal's Pals Speak
On Saturday I wrote about Sal Fasano and his new following known as Sal's Pals and in the end of my write up I encouraged the readers to write in to send photos and stories about the bunch. Tom Dudzic came through. Tom is one of the founders of Sal's Pals and sent in some shots from recent Phillies games. I asked him what made them start a Fasano fan club.
We created Sal's Pals because we feel something needs to bring life to this Phillies team, and not to mention getting the fans fired up. Fasano is a character with his appearence and his personality and what better person to have a fan group for. Look back and people can see that the catcher is one of the true leaders of any good team in real life and in the movies as well. Jason Varitek of the 2004 Red Sox, Thurman Munson of the 1976 Yankees (also had a fu-manchu, coincidence? I think not), Jake Taylor from Major League, Crash Davis from Bull Durham, all leaders. Lieberthal has had a great run with the Phillies but his laid back, California cool style is different than what Philadelphians are used to. Even Daulton was great for us the last time we made the playoffs, but as we all know he's now predicting the end of the world.
You can't argue with that. Thanks to Tom and his fellow Phillies fans. Using Fasano's Fu Manchu as the 'A' in your sign is truly great work. Feel free to email us the700level [at] gmail.com with any photos or stories.

"what better person to have a fan group for"
Um, let me think... Perhaps one of the members of the team that can A) hit, or b) play D.
I'm sure Sal is a real nice guy, but this group will likely be around as long the Duck Pond, remember them? B. Duckworth is actually a better player then Sal also.
Are these guys actually Wolf packers who can't wait for July when Randy gets back?

Fasano hit the most monstrous HR I've ever seen into the "luxury" boxes over the bleachers in Oakland in 2000: this article says it travelled 430 feet, but it was still going up when it smashed through the window. It was awesome.

Yeah...but he sucks.

i think he sticks out because he looks like a regular ball player that would have played in any era. He's a regular joe but goes about his business. Plus he looks like he would have fit in perfectly with '93 "whose ugly now" phils

"Fat" Sal Fasano first made his mark with the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the 1990's. Ever since, he has impressed knowledgeable baseball fans with his power stroke, solid defense, and staunch defense of the plate. Who could ever forget when he literally sat on an incoming baserunner until the throw arrived, so he could tag the sliding run out at home? Unfortunately, too many baseball General Managers fixate on his low batting average and miss the big picture.

my opinion is different since he is a distant relative of my wife`s family.
Sal was able to join us at a real feast at my in law`s about 3 year ago.
like most ball players, this is a far cry from the meals they grab on the road.He was not only super gratefull, he was a pleasure to talk to, and seemed like he was an old cousin back home with all of us.
he has always called my father in law when in ny area asking if we wanted tickets to nearby games..i say he`s a class act..unlike someone with the initals..b.b

Sal's Pals is a great group I agree, but I have never seen such an exciting group as "Flash's Followers". This group kept me excited and entertained through nine innings of a blowout loss to the Mets, including a hour and 5 minute rain delay.

Im "The Hulk" from Flash's Followers, and read a Mets Fan website saying that Phillies fans dont have the Balls to go to the upper level of Shea stadium, and I feel that both the followers and their pals should call the bluff!!
