Midgets Suck
Nate Robinson sucks. A.I. to A.I. was absolutely sick, up there with some of the best dunks ever. Nate Robinson missed his shitty ass dunk 14 times before he finally made it. None of his previous dunks were even that impressive. I am not one to say a dunk is good just because a midget threw it down. You still need to add some flavor to your moves. Kenny Smith must have some sort of Napoleon complex himself to get the judges to vote so highly for the midget from New York. Spud Webb sucks too. Iggy got robbed.
ESPN: Nate Robinson is a midget so feel sorry for him
Disclaimer: sorry to all the little people, I like you all, especially mini-me, just not Nate Robinson.

midgets and Kenny Smith suck. They gave Andre a 44 just so they could force the dunk off. What's so great is that the crowd booed Nate after they announced him the winner and even Magic Johnson said Andre should've won.

After watching the dunks again, Nate's were pretty nice, but the scoring seemed pretty unfair to me. Kenny does indeed suck.

I agree with you as well. Nate had some pretty amazing dunks. Most notably the bounce pass from spud webb for the dunk. But because he's so short they gave him really high scores on regular dunks.

I'm with you. It's all well and good that Nate is small (great, he's an awesome athlete), but no one should have to take 14 tries to get his dunk right and still win the contest.
Iggy's dunks were just plain nasty and he should've won on the strength of the A.I. dunk.

AI to AI was sick!! definately a top 5 dunk, think about it how did he ever come up with something like that?just beacuase Nate never hit puberty means he gets high scores for average dunks?i think there should be a new rule that you have to be over 6 foot to be in the dunk contest as to avoid this in the future, i just hope AI 2.0 comes back next year to get the title he deserves
Posted by: james | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 02:04 PM
Midgets? If you think 5'9 is a midget height then being a 6-footer is short. For a 5'9 guy being able to do those fancy dunks is definitely amazing. I'm sure a lot of 6-footers IN THE NBA cant even do those dunks. How tall are you anyway? Can you even dunk? Pull your head out of your ass first then re-evaluate your ignorant comments.
Posted by: T.I. | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 02:05 PM
T.I., obviously he is not a midget, I was just having some fun with it from a Philly bias. For the record, I am taller than Nate and of course I can't dunk.
Posted by: enrico | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 02:20 PM
Iguodala got shafted. They put on a good show, but as I said on my blog, Iguodala deserved to win.
Posted by: Chris Clarke | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 02:25 PM
they were talking about midgets in the sense of smaller guys in the nba. But Nate's height difference definitely helped him to win. On his 15th attempt he finally got the dunk and he got a 49. Andre got his final dunk on his second try and they only gave him a 46. Plus it was a great dunk as well. It was clear that Nate was going to win. He got too many high scores for simple dunks.
Posted by: maria | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 02:40 PM
You guys are midgets for thinking that AI should have won.
Mental midgets that is.
Posted by: Richard Simmons | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 03:11 PM
A.I. was much more creative and exciting. All of Nate's dunks were simple to recreate. I don't know how many more players will do a reverse dunk after getting a pass of the back of the backboard.
Posted by: maria | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 03:19 PM
andre got screwed for one of the best dunks of all time. kenny smith lowered his score to let robinson win and thats unfair to iguodala and to sixers fans who don't win to much. Not only did they take it away from andre and sixers fans but gave it to a NEW YORK KNICK whitch really got me p-oed. How do you make up for this judging make a replica trophy and give it to andre.
Posted by: eaglewatch | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 04:33 PM
You have to look at this objectively and on a dunk by dunk basis. AI's off behind the backboard dunk was insane and the best dunk of the night and if he had done that in the dunk off against what Nate Robinson did then yes he would of deserved to win. Also you can't look at the misses because they don't count. I think that if someone didn't see the entire contest and just looked at the successful dunks on the dunk off, most would agree with the results. AI's last dunk was impressive but not THAT impressive.
Posted by: Larry | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 04:55 PM
Anybody I'm taller than should not win a dunk contest. This was the most ridiculous thing I've seen, to have Iguodala throw down a dunk that NO ONE has ever seen, EVER, and have Nate Robinson win because he's average height.
fucking ridiculous
Posted by: FP | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 05:58 PM
If it wasn't scored on a round by round basis and was scored after all the dunks were done then yes Iguodala should of/would of won it and that dunk was the best dunk of the night. But all it did was send him on to the next round and thusly couldn't effect the score of his next dunk, which wasn't as impressive as Robinson's last dunk.

But you have to think about it. Was Robinson's last dunk really that impressive. He threw the ball in between his legs and then dunked it. I really don't know but it seemed like they had it predetermined that Nate Robinson was going to win. And you can't deny that Kenny Smith switched his score from a 10 to an 8.
Posted by: maria | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 06:24 PM
Robinson didnt even clear Spud Webb on his dunk over him. If you look, Nate's right leg hits Spud on his left shoulder. So since he didnt clear Spud, his score should have been lower.

I think after Nate leaped over Mr. Potato Head, he had that dunk won. That brought everyone out of their seats with the power he dunked that ball with.
I'm thinking if Andre did the behind-the-backboard dunk in the sudden death round he may have won because no one had ever seen that before.
Sorry you hate short people. Hope the little munchkins don't attack you in your sleep.
Posted by: Benny | Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 07:28 PM
it was the circumstances that Nate was under that made everyone get out of their seats. Had it been Andre leaping over Allen Iverson I don't think he would've gotten a perfect score.

I can deny that Kenny Smith switched his score from a 10 to an 8 because he didn't. Look at the recaps thing. There was 4 9s and one 10 so nobody even had an 8. One guy brought his down and put it back up again but it was a 9 both times.
Posted by: Larry | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 12:19 AM
Well didn't it seem pretty obvious that Nate was chosen to win? Andre had more impressive dunks and much lower scores towards the end.
Posted by: maria | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 12:38 AM
Once again, looking at it on a dunk by dunk basis, Robinson's last dunk was better than Andre's and the one before it was pretty even. The judging was done quite well. I agree that Andre's best dunk was better than Robinson's best dunk but that isn't how this contest is judged. Also yes Nate Robinson's size most likely did effect the voting but that's to be expected, dude is one of the shortest to be in a dunk contest, thus making it harder for him and the degree of difficulty should come into play.
Posted by: Larry | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 01:08 AM
His size shouldn't be a factor. Andre shouldn't have had to do more just to get the same score. I still think Andre's last dunk was much more impressive than Nate's.
Posted by: maria | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 02:17 AM
The funniest thing was when the dunkers couldn't add the scores in their heads, so they just sat there with blank stares on their faces, and Iguodala actually appeared to think he won.
Posted by: Brett | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 10:35 AM
He did win. But as Andre said himself on Cold Pizza, Kenny Smith changed his score.
Posted by: maria | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 01:24 PM
Once again, look at the recap. Nobody changed their score. A guy dropped his 9 and then put it back up. A 9 changing to a 9 isn't a change. Maybe since he brought it down for a second, they thought he had changed it, but no he didn't.
Posted by: Larry | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 04:51 PM
It didn't show the whole clip. Andre said that when he first saw the scores it said 48 and then he looked up again and he himself said Kenny Smith changed his score.
Posted by: maria | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 08:07 PM
Eh, it's only a dunk contest, and we ALL KNOW that Iggy's dunk was one of the most creative, dificult, insane dunks ever thrown down in the dunk contest.
Posted by: enrico | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 10:19 PM
Regarding the scoring on Nate Robinson's dunk: When the scorecards were raised, Malone - who originally had signaled an 8 - looked at the other judges' cards and changed his to a 10, giving Robinson a 47-46 victory.
Posted by: enrico | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 10:22 PM
You are absolutely right. Iggy was robbed! The level of difficulty on his dunk w/ AI was way higher than Robinson dunking over a man shorter than he is himself. Nate should've dunked over Dirk (and made the dunk on the 1st or 2nd try) maybe THEN he should've won. Truthfully, it was game ova after Iggy made the dunk from behind the backboard.
Posted by: phillygirl109 | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 10:41 PM
question: should there have been a dunk-off to begin with? And should they have let Nate attempt his final dunk 14 times?
Posted by: maria | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 10:42 PM
plus it said that Moses Malone changed his score from an 8 to a 10 on Nate's final dunk not Andre's.
Posted by: maria | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 10:47 PM
You are all nuts. Look at the recap in the link I posted. After Robinson's last dunk it clearly shows right when the judges all put their scores up. There was no judges looking at the other scores and changing his to a ten and Andre had the last dunk anyway. It isn't like they knew his score and were look woah we need to add a point so that Robinson can win. It is very stupid of people to keep mentioning the off the backboard dunk and saying he should of won it because of that. Yes that was the best dunk of the night but that isn't how the bloody contest is scored. It is so simple yet seems so hard for all of you to grasp. As for the 14 times, once again it is in the rules that you can do that and it doesn't influence the score. I could understand not liking that rule, but as is Robinson won the contest.
Posted by: Larry | Monday, February 20, 2006 at 11:13 PM
You're missing the point, Maria. HELL NAW there shouldn't have been a dunk off. After Iggy's dunk, which was original and crazy, it should've been GAME OVA! Nothing Nate did to that point even came close.
Posted by: phillygirl109 | Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 10:32 AM
No one should be allowed 14 attempts to complete their dunk! Like I said, your "clip" doesn't show all of it. The game was fixed to have Nate win and it was obvious. And again there shouldn't have been a dunk off to begin with. They gave Andre a 44 on his last dunk in the finals to force a dunk-off.
Posted by: maria | Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 04:59 PM
the whole things a sham, iggy should have had the trophy presented to him after the dunk with iverson (best dunk ever!!),the rule about being allowed as many tries as you want and not effecting the score is the stupidest rule ive ever heard of, and it is clear that the judges were awarding nate extra points for his dunks just becuase of his height, if he is going to enter a competition that is full of athletes over 6'6 he should accept the challenge and try to beat them fairly and it should be judged on the style, difficulty and the flare the dunk was carried out with and nothing to do with the dunker and thats all there is to say!!We all know Iggy is the better dunker so i dont need to justify myself on here any longer
Posted by: james | Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 03:28 PM
I agree (James). I heard that at last night's game against the Cavs they introduced Iggy as "our" Slam Dunk Champion
