Flyers Make Big Move

I'm a football fan first, baseball fan second, basketball third, but I'm still a sports fan from Philly.  That, by default, makes me a fan of the orange and black.  I'm by no means a hockey aficionado but I know a big signing when I see one and the Flyers going after and getting Peter Forsberg is a big move:

"Peter Forsberg is one of the best players in the game," general manager Bob Clarke said in a statement. "We signed him knowing that he puts us over the cap and we will have to trade some guys now."
.....
The move comes a day after the Flyers bulked up their defense by signing hulking blue liners Derian Hatcher, Mike Rathje and Chris Therien to free-agent contracts.

There is a lot to look forward to for you big time Flyers fans.  I'll admit, I do miss a good Flyers game on the television.

---------------

The Phillies won a weird one in South Philly against the Cubies.  I listened to the first 3 innings or so on my drive home from work, but I spent the rest of my evening in Center City at the Capital Grille eating filet mignon and drinking a little red and a little white.  I am convinced the best meal in the world is a filet with a side of mashed and asparagus with a nice red to wash it down.  Anyone have any thoughts on the Phillies game I didn't see?

Some random notables after the jump.

Random notables:
ESPN's take on T.O.'s first day in front of the fans makes it seem pretty positive.

The Sporting News ranked Philly as the second best sporting city behind Boston.  Having lived in both cities, I would have to disagree.  Boston is a HUGE baseball town, but the other sports fall short in my opinion.

The weekly publication yesterday ranked Philadelphia as the nation's No. 2 sports city overall - behind Boston - but named this town the best when it comes to those high-profile winter sports.

The Sporting News rankings take into account regular-season records, playoff berths, championships, tournament bids, stadium quality and fan fervor.

rediculous.

Rick, nice pic WoW !!

Bobby Abreu has hit 2 homeruns since JUNE 12th. Jason Giambi hit 14 in July alone. We should have traded Bobby.

I've been a Flyers fan since birth. This is the most exciting day for Flyers fans since the day we were awarded the right to trade for Eric Lindros. Hopefully, this works out slightly better for us...

Two very funny web pages...check 'em out, or don't, I don't really care...
