Ed Wade Gets 2 more Years!@*!?

Today is a sad day for Phillies fans.  Ed Wade's 2 year "option" was picked up by the Phillies.  Will somone explain this to me?  The Phillies organization is a joke.

this dosen't make sense at all. why wouldn't they wait and see if they make the playoffs. so if we don't make the playoffs this year we are going to have to go through another off season with Wade calling the shots. what are they going to do next sign Bell to a long term deal? we need to make some moves they should trade bobby and thome and they should have traded wagner cause now he is just going to leave after the season.

Gargano and Mis were talking about it on 610 today, as was Howard. They said Ed Wade was on DNL last night and made it known that his contract was picked up for the next two years.

I have some questions...why does ed wade take so much of the heat for the phillies poor performance? isn't dave montgomery his boss? why does he get the golden pass? where is his accountability? wade answers to higher powers, whats with the focus on the middle man? like wouldnt it be cool if we had a baseball team that functioned like a normal team? that knew how to manufacture runs and not just live off the homerun or blowout innings. what if was actually hard to get a ticket to go to that beautiful new stadium because they sold out every game like they are supposed to? and for the love of god, when is kenny lofton going to take over the leadoff spot? and finally would if you really like baseball would you rather watch a yankee game or a phillie game?

I wrote about this last night, but I have an update: it looks like the Phils have not re-signed Wade, they've simply not refused to pick up the option that was already in his contract. The effect's the same - Wade contracted for two more years - but at least it wasn't like Monty walked up to Eddie, patted him on the butt, and said "Good work putting together a team that flat-out can't win. Stick around for two more years." The bottom line is that this doesn't mean they won't fire him at the end of the year. Necessarily.
