Sports Illustrated Profiles Chic Kelly, A Unique Philly Sports Fan

Share

Chic Kelly is a graduate of my alma matter, Malvern Prep, out in Chester County who went on to play hockey at Merrimack College. His hockey career came to a tragic end in 1988 when he went head first into the boards and lost his ability to walk. In a wheel chair every day since that injury, Kelly now teaches in the same class rooms I spent my formative years learning in.

Sports Illustrated recently caught up with Chic and profiles a guy who lives and loves life to the fullest, despite being unable to get full use of his body. While Kelly certainly deals with his circumstances in incredible fashion, his story does have some unfortunate circumstances attached to it, with the NCAA now saying they're unable to pay enough insurance to cover the costs of the nursing that allows him to live with adult independence.

Kelly is a remarkable guy, and a huge Philly sports fan taboot, so give the SI profile about his story a read.
